DIY: How to Change a Toilet Flapper

If you currently have a toilet that is using too much water or you hear spooky phantom flushes, your problem may be a faulty flapper. Follow the video below or these points to effectively change a flapper.

  1. Shut off water supply to the toilet.
  2. Flush the toilet until there is barely any water in the tank.
  3. Gently remove the flapper by pulling off each side that is attached to the hush tube.
  4. Remove the chain from the handle and remove the old flapper.
  5. Ensure the new flapper is designed for your toilet.
  6. Match the length of the chain with the old flapper.
  7. Place flapper in its correct position and attach it to the hush tube.
  8. Reattach the chain to the handle.
  9. Turn back on water supply.
  10. Test.
